Chaweng Restaurant Guide

The Islander (British)
If the thought of spending a Sunday without eating a traditional roast dinner is just too much to even contemplate then head over to The Islander near Soi Green Mango. Here you will find proper pub grub at reasonable prices. Open from 9am to midnight, they serve traditional English breakfasts, as well as burgers, lamb and chicken roast dinners, baguettes, lasagnes, curries and Thai food. With plenty of beer flowing, the place can get a little lively at night time.

Le Cafe Des Arts (French)
The French style bistro is a popular choice amongst many who visit Koh Samui. Serving the very best in French cuisine, as well as incredible seafood and Thai dishes, eat at Le Cafe Des Arts is a tasty and enjoyable experience that certainly won’t break the bank. If you have never tried the French delicacy of frog’s legs, make sure you try them here!

Gringo’s Cantina (Mexican)
Located just behind The Islander Pub, Gringo’s is easily Koh Samui’s finest Mexican restaurant. They serve a comprehensive range of Tex Mex cuisine, such as nachos, burritos, tacos, as well as nightly specials of chilli verde, paella, barbecued ribs and curried lamb burritos. Oh, and we forgot to mention there is a nine hole golf course at the back of the restaurant; well, why not?!

Zico’s (Brazilian)
Samui’s famous Brazilian restaurant, located in the heart of Chaweng, Zico’s probably offers one of the most fantastic dining options on the whole of Koh Samui. The perfect mixture of tasty food, great entertainment and amazing cocktails is what makes this place so popular. Sit back and prepare yourself for a meat feast like no other, as skewer after skewer of some of the finest cuts of barbecued meat is brought to your table. Split over two floors, the lower level is a 60 seat restaurant; whilst upstairs is a stylish and fun cocktail lounge and bar.

Noori India (Indian)
Open since 1998, Nooria has long been established as Koh Samui’s best Indian restaurant. Indian cuisine is popular throughout the world and Noori certainly helps to live up to that reputation. The menu is very impressive, serving a great range of the most popular Indian dishes including Lamb Rogan Josh, Chicken Tawa and of course, Tikka Masala. They even have more than 20 vegetarian dishes on the menu, as well as over 20 different types of traditional Indian breads. Located in Central Chaweng, make sure you don’t miss out on this opportunity to sample some great Indian food on Koh Samui.

Red Snapper (French/Intl/Thai modern fusion)
Located in the northern area of Chaweng Beach Road, Red snapper is in a great location, offers a friendly, laid back atmosphere and serves some pretty magical food. With these 3 factors it is easy to see why this restaurant is so popular. There is also a big TV screen (don’t let this put you off), live music and excellent food; Red Snapper is the place to go for a perfect night out. As for the food, you simply have to try the lobster cannelloni, tiger prawns with Thai veg and pan fried Hokkaido scallops.

Tom Yam Thai (Thai)
There might be thousands of Thai restaurants on Koh Samui but if you are looking for one that guarantees delicious food, with an amazing decor and a first class service then Tom Yam Thai is the place to go. This 80 seat restaurant is certainly very special, with the incredible set meals for two being particularly recommended. These cost around 1000 baht, which is very reasonable for the quality of the food and standard of the restaurant. Located at the northern end of Chaweng beach Tom Yam Thai will take your experience of Thai cuisine to the next level.

Captain Kirk (Mediterranean Thai fusion)
Located in central Chaweng, Captain Kirks has built up a large and loyal following of clientele in recent years. Spread over two floors, the restaurant that can be found on the first floor is a great place to relax and indulge in a bit of people watching in the street outside. Captain Kirks is also home to a South Africian themed bar, which is home to quirky wall murals and other snazzy design features. It also serves some great Mediterranean and Thai cuisine and is a pleasant place to spend a relaxing evening.

9 Gems (International fusion)
Located 5 minutes from Chaweng Beach, 9 Gems is one of the areas most stylish and trendy restaurants. The restaurant itself offers some pretty incredible views of the bay and surrounding mountains. Onto the food, and that is just as spectacular as the panoramic views. Make sure you try the chicken tandoori salad and crispy seabass. If you’ve got room, don’t miss out on desert as the homemade chocolate ice cream is amongst the best on the island. Trendy and smart, 9 Gems is well worth a visit.

Eat Sense (International/Thai/Seafood)
If you are looking for a tropical beachside restaurant in the heart of Chaweng, then look no further as Eat Sense might just be the place you have been looking for. The restaurant itself is very spacious and has room for one hundred or more diners. Listening to the sound of the rippling waves, it is highly recommended to try one of Eat Sense’s famous lobster dishes, which are simply fantastic and will definitely not disappoint. The atmosphere is good too, very relaxing and laid back.

Will Wait (Thai, International)
This bakery/restaurant has been a popular eatery in Chaweng for a good number of years, something which is still the case today. There are actually two branches of Will Wait that are on Ko Samui and both have an extensive menu covering just about everything from breakfast to late night (drunken) snacking! The freshly baked bread and popular Thai dishes are both of very high quality at prices that are very reasonable indeed. Will Wait also show movies most evenings.

Dr Frogs (Italian-Thai Fusion)
Well, the only thing to say about Dr Frog’s is that it is amazing in every single way! And don’t just take our word for it, in 2008 it was voted by one of Thailand’s leading food magazines as one of the best restaurants in all of Thailand. Situated on the main Chaweng ring road, just about everything has been thought of at Dr Frogs from the decor, right through to the food. The whole operation is overseen by internationally renowned and award winning chef. Some of the most popular dishes on the menu include crab cakes with a spicy mango sauce, green tagliatelle and roasted duck breast and the mango crème brulee. Don’t just take our word for it, if you only eat at one fine dining during your visit to Koh Samui, Dr Frogs should be it.

Twisted Thai (Thai)
Visiting Twisted Thai is a real culinary adventure and if you are into your Thai food then you won’t go far wrong with this place. Situated on the beach in the quieter south side of Chaweng Beach, Twisted Thai has a long open kitchen and snazzy interior. The coloured lighting that can be found throughout the restaurant only helps to add the already pleasurable atmosphere. As the for the food, you’ll definitely be in safe hands as the talented team of chefs serve up some of the best Thai cuisine on the island. A firm favourite with many visitors to Samui, Twisted Thai won’t disappoint!

Spirit House (Thai)
The Spirit House Resort Spa and Restaurant offers peace and tranquillity, as well as great food. The outside of the restaurant is certainly traditional, yet with a modern feel and the whole place not only looks great from the outside but it looks just as good once you get inside. The food served here is equally as traditional and authentic as the decor. Recommended dishes include the duck red curry or massaman curry, both of which are excellent. For desert you should try the mango with sweet sticky rice. Spirit House serves up traditional Thai food in a superb setting.
